Daisy hid the excitement surging through her and looked up at him with a fake expression of anger and hurt. "Fine! And keep your people away from me!"
Then she immediately ran out of the hospital room.
Before Beta David could react, Daisy found a blind spot in his line of sight and slipped into the fire stairwell within a few steps.
Her hands shook as she pulled a Moonshade Necklace from her pocket. The necklace had an expensive Shadow Moonstone set in the center.
This was something Silas had once spent a fortune on to make her happy. It was supposed to completely hide the wearer's scent and tracks for a period of time, and even powerful alphas couldn't detect them.
Daisy put on the Moonshade Necklace and grabbed a cloak from a storage room in the hospital. Then she carefully made her way out.
After familiarizing herself with the layout over the past few days, she knew all the shortcuts through the werewolf hospital.
Her heart pounded as she ran out of the hospital and carefully squeezed onto a pack supply truck. She kept her voice low as she called her boyfriend.
"Daniel, get to the airport right now. We need to change our flight and leave!"
As she spoke, she nervously watched the view outside the truck window, terrified that Silas would notice something was wrong and come after her.
If Silas caught her, she'd never get another chance to escape!
"Okay, I'm leaving now."
Half an hour later, Daisy—wearing the dull gray cloak—slipped off the truck when it stopped.
She felt so light and free. She hadn't taken anything from the Bloodmoon Pack estate except herself.
Daisy pushed through the crowd and looked around. After a while, she spotted Daniel on one side of the airport.
"Daisy!"
Daniel Ashford rushed over and pulled her into his arms. His eyes turned red. "Daisy, I've been miserable without you..."
"Wait—" Before he could say more, Daniel let go and quickly pulled a vial from his pocket. He lowered his voice. "Daisy, this is a potion to remove the mark. I got it from a witch. The side effects are one-way, and there's a delayed reaction before they kick in, so the werewolf won't notice right away. That gives us plenty of time to get away!"
Daisy nodded and took the potion with shaking hands. Silas had left too deep a shadow on her, and even now, she felt anxious. She couldn't help looking around, and only after she saw that everything seemed normal did she drink the potion in one gulp.
"Daniel, thank you." Daisy's eyes grew wet, and the moment she drank the potion, her racing heart finally started to calm down.
She could finally get away from that monster for good.
Now that everything was settled, Daisy grabbed Daniel's hand and urged him toward the airport entrance. "Come on, Daniel, we need to leave now. If Silas figures it out, we won't be able to escape!"
Only by reaching the Supernatural Neutral Zone early could Daisy finally feel at ease.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the hospital room was frozen, and the only sound was Arvil's soft sobbing.
Silas's frown deepened. "Arvil, don't worry. I'll make sure she apologizes to you."
After he said that, he pulled out his phone and sent Daisy a message.
"Stay home and wait for me. Don't even think about running."
When he didn't get a reply, his eyebrow twitched sharply, and he stopped listening to whatever Arvil was saying. He walked out of the room.
When he saw David standing alone, his face went dark and he demanded, "Where's Daisy?"
David looked confused. "Isn't Ms. Rivers still in the room? She never came out."
Silas's temple throbbed even harder, and he called Daisy's phone.
But the call wouldn't go through.
His expression grew darker, and his mood more irritable by the second. Just then, Robert came out of the room and asked, "Did Daisy leave on her own?"
"Yeah." Silas tried calling a few more times, but the result was always the same—no one picked up.
When Silas couldn't hear Daisy's voice, his anxiety kept building. His wolf Owen seemed to spiral into some kind of irrational rage and chaos. Silas forced himself to calm down and focus on the mental bond he shared with his fragile human mate.
Thankfully, the bond gave him a response. It was faint, but it told him that Daisy hadn't slipped out of his control yet.
That eased some of the tension in his chest, though his face stayed tight. He kept trying to call Daisy's phone over and over.
"Don't overthink it. Daisy's parents are still here, so where could she go?" Robert guessed. "She probably just got upset and went back to the estate by herself."
The call still wouldn't go through, and Silas took a deep breath. "Robert, I'm going back to find her. You stay here with Arvil."
He needed to see Daisy with his own eyes before he could relax.
At the airport, Daisy watched her phone light up with another incoming call. She bit down hard on her lip, and when Daniel came back with the tickets he'd just bought, she threw her phone away without a second thought.
Her heart didn't stop racing until the plane finally took off. She stared out at the white clouds and whispered in disbelief, "Daniel, we actually got away!"
"Yeah, Daisy. We're finally free of him."
Daisy started crying tears of relief.
