My husband was diagnosed with uremia and needed a kidney transplant. Luckily, my kidney was a perfect match.

Outside the operating room, his parents begged me desperately to save their son.

The attending doctor declared the situation critical and held out the donation consent form, urging me to sign.

My husband, Jasper Coleman, had just been rushed into the emergency room in critical condition after being diagnosed with uremia. Meanwhile, I stood calmly outside, watching a livestream on my phone as if none of it concerned me.

A few minutes later, his parents came rushing over.

"Amelia, Jasper needs a kidney transplant. You're the only one who can save him now!"

His mother, Ivana Coleman, grabbed my hand tightly with tears in her eyes.

I didn't bother to look away from my phone as I gently pushed her hand away. "Ivana, I'm not feeling well. The doctor said I can't donate my kidney," I said.

Ivana sized me up from head to toe and questioned, "You're not feeling well? Since when?

"Amelia, are you refusing to save Jasper now?

"I'm begging you, Amelia. Please, save Jasper. He's willing to do anything for you!"

At last, she clasped her hands and pleaded desperately.

I moved to a different seat, continuing to watch the livestream.

Jasper's father, Morgan Coleman, couldn't bear it anymore. He turned to me, speaking softly and humbly.

"Amelia, we're family, aren't we? Ivana's already begging you—"

I interrupted with a smile. "There's nothing I can do. I'm pregnant, so I can't donate my kidney."

"That can't be ...

"Jasper never told us anything."

Ivana's eyes were filled with doubt as she stared at my belly.

It was understandable.

After all, when Jasper and I got married, we agreed not to have children.

We were planning to be DINKs.

Besides, Jasper usually shared everything with his parents. He would never hide something this big from them.

I took the medical report out of my bag, and Ivana suddenly snatched it from me.

"What are we going to do? You can't have the surgery, and no one else can save Jasper!

"No! God, please take my life instead and spare my son!

Morgan's eyes were filled with tears as well.

He tried to comfort the broken Ivana.

I opened the livestream app and focused on the screen.

I was watching my favorite streamer, who was hosting a live shopping event.

"Only ten more orders and I'm kicking off my talent show!"

Excited, I watched the nonstop comments while typing, "Dance, dance! I want to see you dance!"

I ended up ordering several bottles of the cleanser to stock up.

The streamer started playing upbeat music, and I swayed gently with the rhythm.

At that moment, Sophie Lynch hurried out of the emergency room and strode toward me.

She was Jasper's childhood friend and also his attending physician.
