Caleb spoke gently into the phone, “Don’t worry. I’m coming right now to help you look.”

He hung up and rushed to the door.

Then, like he suddenly remembered I existed, he stopped and turned to me with a cold face.

“I’ll have my assistant take you to the hospital to get rid of it.”

I collapsed onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably, completely heartbroken.

Remembering how good things used to be with Caleb just made it hurt even more.

We used to be the couple everyone envied.

He used to spoil me like I was his whole world.

I didn’t understand how we ended up like this.

Everything started to change when Lila came back from her so-called treatment abroad.

One fake call saying she was “sick” and Caleb would drop everything for her.

Didn’t matter what time it was or what we were doing.

Of course I’d fought with him about it.

Once, we were getting intimate, things heating up.

One phone call from Lila was all it took to kill the mood.

She was crying on the other end, saying she didn’t feel well. The moment Caleb heard her, he started comforting her and said he’d be right there.

He got up, pulled on his clothes as he talked, and walked out without a second glance.

I sat there in bed, wrapped in the sheets, my eyes red. I asked, “It’s the middle of the night. Where are you going?”

Caleb rushed to say, “Didn’t you hear Lila? She’s not feeling well. I’m going to stay with her. Get some sleep. Don’t stay up too late.”

I couldn’t take it anymore.

“Then tell her to see a doctor. What good is you being there? You’re not a doctor.”

Caleb snapped, “No, I’m not. But it’s the middle of the night and Lila’s a girl. Going to the hospital alone is dangerous.

“She’s sweet, okay? We’ve known each other since we were kids. Her parents died young, her health’s always been bad. That’s why I take care of her. Stop treating her like she’s your enemy.

“Don’t be so unreasonable.”

A message notification pulled me back to reality.

It was from Caleb.

“I got you the best doctor and a private room. My assistant is on the way to pick you up.

“I love you, Emilia. Please be good and go take care of it. I’ll come to the hospital after I help Lila find the kitten.”

Before I could even reply, the door swung open. Lucas Reed, Caleb’s assistant, stepped in and looked at me coldly.

“Mr. Morgan told me to take you to the hospital. Don’t make this harder than it has to be. I’m not in the mood for your drama.”

I was still Caleb’s legal wife, for God’s sake. But Lucas didn’t even bother hiding his disgust.

It wasn’t hard to figure out why. Lila had clearly bought him off a long time ago.

Even though I was pregnant, Lucas dragged me down the stairs like I was nothing.

Then he shoved me into the back seat of the car.

Tears burned in my eyes. I asked, “How can you treat me like this? I’m carrying Caleb’s baby!”

Lucas snorted, “Some people really do get lucky. But luck doesn’t mean much if you’re not good enough to keep it.

“Who knows whose bastard that even is. Girls like you…

“Only Ms. Bennett gets to have Mr. Morgan’s baby.”

I was humiliated and furious. I pulled out my phone to call Caleb, but all I got was a busy tone.

Just then, Lila updated her Instagram story.

It was a video with the caption, “Found our baby!”

In the video, she was holding the kitten, smiling like sunshine.

She handed it to Caleb, and without blinking, he took it and held it like it was a treasure.

I loved dogs. I’d begged Caleb for ages to let us get one, but no matter how much I pleaded, he always said no.

He had rhinitis and claimed he was allergic to pet hair.

But now it seemed like his allergies depended on who the pet belonged to.
